Female Twitch streamers have had enough of the thot accusations, the breast remarks and comments on their clothing choices, and they’ve taken to the platform to raise awareness for their cause.
Kacey “Kaceytron” Kaviness (who you can check out on Twitch right here) earlier this week organised what she dubbed a ‘Sl*tStream,’ during which she and fellow streamer Isabella “IzzyBear” O’Hammon used their voices to speak out against sexual harassment online and sex trafficking.

The duo hosted the stream on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, and those who got involved ended up raising $3,175 for Freedom 4/24, a nonprofit organisation which works to raise awareness of sex trafficking and exploitation.
“I’ve had a lot of people ask, ‘Why call it Sl*tStream? That’s just offensive,’” said Kaceytron [via Kotaku]. “The whole idea of calling it ‘Sl*tStream’ is taking the name back and giving less power to it.”

Over on Twitter, she wrote: “I’ve partnered with @Bellaj0713 and we are officially announcing #SL*TSTREAM on July 30th we will be raising money for @Freedom424,
“We want any and all streamers who stand against the constant harassment and sl*t shaming of women to stream dressed in ways that make them feel comfortable and raise awareness for a good cause.”

Earlier in the month, Kaceytron tweeted her initial idea for the stream writing: “It would be really cool if all female streamers could arrange a day where we dress slutty and put #sl*tstream in our title, we can raise awareness about the sexism we face for being comfortable with our sexuality while also p*ssing off legions of incels.”
Despite receiving some backlash for the choice of name, the stream was applauded by fellow streamers and those in the online community who’ve suffered abuse online.
One streamer commented on the Twitter post, writing: “Wow this is so awesome as a streamer I get some hate on how I look and sometimes it does hurt my feelings. Good luck on your stream and raising money for a good cause.”
With thousands of dollars raised, it seems that Sl*tStream was a success all around! Here’s hoping we’re finally making steps in the right direction when it comes to Twitch and streaming culture.
