I don’t know why on Earth you’d want this, but it’s been revealed that the upcoming PS5 will support party chat for up to 100 players.

If you’ve experienced the sheer hell of trying to play a game with multiple people in the chat, you’ll know why having that for up to 100 people isn’t a great idea. However, it seems like it’s a feature of PS5, so there you go.
The news comes from the source code of the official PlayStation website, which was then shared to Reddit‘s r/gamingleaksandrumors, and Resetera. Although it looks fairly definitive, note that the feature hasn’t been confirmed outright by Sony, so take the news with a sprinkle of salt until official.

As noted on Resetera, the PlayStation site source code reveals “your party can include up to 100 members.”
Again, not sure why. But okay!

The source code also revealed some news about backwards compatibility on PS5. Messages in the source code warn players that some functionalities may not be available when playing a PS4 game on a PS5. Similarly, the following error message has also been spotted:
“This PS4 game isn’t supported with your PS5’s current system software. We’re continuing to make more PS4 games playable on PS5. Update your PS5, and then try playing the game.”

Right now, Sony has stated that “99 percent” of PS4 games can be played on your PS5. Meanwhile, the newly-unveiled PlayStation Plus Collection will give PS Plus subscribers the opportunity to play a ton of PS4 classics on PS5, from day one. Check out the full list of Collection games right here.
With more new PS5 details coming all the time, does this mean another State of Play is in order from Sony? Let’s hope so!
