It seems that Nintendo may have accidentally leaked Metroid: Samus Returns for the Nintendo Switch.

The potential release of Metroid: Samus Returns is a result of speculation following a Super Metroid Skin & Screen Protector Set appearing on the Nintendo Shop [via ComicBook].
Now there are a couple of things wrong with what’s written above. Firstly, we mention a leak for Metroid: Samus Returns which is a re-imagining of 1991’s Metroid II: Samus Returns which released for the 3DS in 2017.
Secondly, the Skin & Screen Protector Set that appeared on the Nintendo Shop is for Super Metroid, a game to be considered one of the best in the series which was released for the Super Nintendo in 1994.

Well here’s where the oddness comes into play. Despite the Skin & Screen Protector Set being themed for Super Metroid, one of the images on the Nintendo Shop listing appears to show a child playing the 3DS’s Metroid: Samus Returns on a Nintendo Switch.
So this could mean one of a few things. We’re either getting a remake of Super Metroid or Metroid: Samus Returns is getting re-released on the Nintendo Switch.

Lastly the image of Samus Returns being played on the Switch could just be an error and the listing is just for a fancy Super Metroid Skin & Screen Protector Set and nothing more.
Whichever way you look at it, it would be odd to just release the Skin & Screen Protector Set and nothing else. If I was a betting man, I’d say that Metroid: Samus Returns might be getting re-released on the Nintendo Switch.

Either way, hopefully we won’t have long to find out because Nintendo may or may not be making an announcement at the next Nintendo Direct event.
