If you’re a fan of crafting spooky scary skeletons stories then you might want to make Reddit your new home, as it seems Netflix is sourcing new show and movie ideas from the site.
It’s been revealed that Netflix has purchased the rights to the iconic r/nosleep story, My Wife and I Bought a Ranch, by Matt Query. The post, which was shared to the site in February 2020 and is one of six parts, received over 4,000 upvotes and instantly became a cult classic for horror fans.
It’s not too surprising to see a series is on the way, and it’s definitely interesting to see Netflix scouring Reddit for ideas. (At least, I hope it’s a series and not just a movie! This is a big post and it needs a lot of time!)
According to Deadline, the screenplay will be written by Query’s brother, Harrison, with Scott Glassgold of Ground Control Entertainment producing. Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen will also be producing, along with James Wan and Michael Clear.
The acquisition is reported to be a “low seven-figure,” and gives Netflix the rights to all six parts of the spooky tale.
In case you haven’t read it, the story revolves around a couple, Harry and Sasha, who buy a ranch in Idaho. All is far from well in their new home though, as neighbours inform the couple of an evil spirit who resides in the valley. Worryingly, the spirit is all-too-familiar with the couples’ ranch, and grim terror awaits.
It’s now the second story that Glassgold and Harrison Query have sold to Netflix, following on from 2019’s Three Musketeers.
