Internet Explorer was pretty much everyone’s web browser of choice when it launched way back in 1995.

In the years that followed, Internet Explorer tried to evolve with the times, but with the arrival of browsers such as Google Chrome and Firefox, it has been enduring a slow, painful death.

For a while now, Microsoft has been pretty much leaving Internet Explorer for dead after launching its new browser “Edge” in 2015.

As reported by PC Gamer, in a blog post this week via Windows.com, the final nail has been officially smashed into Internet Explorer’s coffin.

Today, we are at the next stage of that journey: we are announcing that the future of Internet Explorer on Windows 10 is in Microsoft Edge,” reads the blog post.

Not only is Microsoft Edge a faster, more secure and more modern browsing experience than Internet Explorer, but it is also able to address a key concern: compatibility for older, legacy websites and applications.

With Microsoft Edge capable of assuming this responsibility and more, the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10.”
