So long, Snake Eater.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Speedrunner Finally Discovers A Ladder Scene Skip

Rejoice, Metal Gear Solid 3 speedrunners, as the infamously long ladder scene finally has a fully-fledged skip.

If you’ve played Metal Gear Solid 3, then you know one of the most memorable moments of the game is the ladder scene. It takes approximately two full minutes, and is basically just an excuse to play the main theme of the game. Now though, Brazilian speedrunner apel has figured out how to skip the ladder scene entirely.

Some context: a few years ago, apel discovered something called the “food zip,” which is the foundation for this new ladder skip. But of course, like any good skip, it is a bit of a complicated one.

First of all, you need to equip the DMIC, any grande, any pistol, and the knife, precisely in that order. Head to the area you want to zip in, then perform a hard reset. Then to do the ladder skip, you need to load the game in, unequip the DMIC, and equip any three food items. Then at the ladder, after equipping and unequipping a variety of items, Snake will T-Pose, and will shoot to the top of the ladder. Apparently this skip is currently multisegment only, as food zips are supposedly extremely inconsistent. And it can also be quite random, and might crash your game.

Any which way, the fact that after all these years a ladder skip has been found is incredibly impressive. And hopefully a more consistent method will be found sometime soon.
