Dying Light 2 Developer Responds To Release Date Rumours

Techland has responded to rumours regarding the release date of Dying Light 2 after fans started to speculate about their validity.

The latest rumours were sparked after retailer EBGames listed a pre-order for the game with a release date of 25th May 2021. Fans immediately began to question whether the listing was fake or not, especially since the listing also appeared to use placeholder artwork.

Techland responded to fans via the Dying Light 2 Twitter page, making the following comments in regards to a screenshot of the EBGames listing: “Just a placeholder set by the store, we had a similar situation last year with stores putting December 2020 as a release date

The EBGames listing itself was brought to the developer’s attention after fans tried to push the team for info on the upcoming game. Techland’s community manager also responded to this via the official Twitter handle, although it seems that the response was more of a personal opinion than an official announcement:

“…we just want to be ready and prepared. Honestly, my personal @Uncy8 (too lazy to switch accounts) opinion is that this approach is the best one as it allows us to give  you a finished and ambitious game to enjoy without us rushing it”.

This could be a slight dig at developers like CD Projekt Red, who arguably released Cyberpunk 2077 too early on last-gen consoles. While the rumours of an imminent release date have been quashed for now, fans can at least find comfort in the fact that the game’s development is still in full swing.

That isn’t to say that the game won’t potentially release this year, as plenty of clues have suggested otherwise. Just recently, a collectors edition bundle for the game was listed by a retailer before being taken down again. Even if the game doesn’t release in the near future, it does seem to be very far into development.
