A new leak suggests that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 won’t just be getting a free update to support more VR headsets on PC, but that the Xbox Series X version might also get support.
At the time of writing, the classic simulation series Microsoft Flight Simulator which was recently released for PC does not support VR headsets (although it does have extensive support from a high number of Joysticks, Controllers, TrackIR and HOTAS set-ups and more).
However, it is known that Microsoft one day aims to bring virtual reality support to Flight Simulator, but it’s no easy task. Seeing as this is a very technical and in-depth game, it’s no easy process and is something that cannot happen overnight.
Thankfully there are rumours that Microsoft Flight Simulator might undergo an open beta on PC in November and it is thought that virtual reality functionality might be tested. It’s also suspected that when Microsoft Flight Simulator makes its way to Xbox Series X, both the PC and console versions will support VR headsets.
The rumours of VR support coming to Xbox Series X are courtesy of a forum post from a user named Cygnifick [via TheGamer] who discovered a reference while data mining.
The user found evidence of a “Scarlett_VR” – possibly referencing the “Project Scarlett” codename given to the Xbox Series X before the next-gen console received its official name.
To put two and two together, thinking that the Xbox Series X version of Microsoft Flight Simulator might be supporting VR is not outside the realms of possibility.
Microsoft Flight Simulator is already available on PC and is included in the Game Pass subscription service. However, it’s not set to release for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S until sometime next year, so they have plenty of time to beta test the game ready for its console launch in 2021.
