Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Beats Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War In UK Physical Sales

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla raided the number one spot in UK physical sales last week topping Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

This is certainly a rare occurrence because it is the first time in 13 years that a Call of Duty game hasn’t claimed the top-spot during its debut week.

The Call of Duty game that was released 13 years ago was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare which is considered to be by many as the best in the long-running series.

Although this is a huge success for Valhalla [via GamesIndustry.biz], it is worth bearing in mind that this particular sales chart is for physical releases and does not include digital sales.

From November 8th to November 14th Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla took the top spot in the top 10 across PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War clinching second place.

Taking up the third spot was Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales from Insomniac Games which released for PS4 and PS5, although the PS5 version was made available a week ahead of the UK next-gen console launch.

Another statistic that will surely please those that still like to purchase their games in physical form is that overall sales of physical games were up by 96% compared to the previous week.

However it is also worth mentioning that once the numbers come in that includes digital sales, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War may claim the overall top spot.

Activision Blizzard Marketing Director Anna Malmhake told Call of Duty fansite CharlieIntel that Black Ops Cold War set a record for first-day digital sales and is expected to outperform last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Just last week it was revealed that the online active player-count was doubled in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla when compared to that of 2018’s Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey at launch.
